IT-assistant in clinical evaluation of nephron transmission electron microscopy results
Objective. To evaluate the diagnostic value of an IT assistant with artificial intelligence elements for calculating and translating the light pixel saturation (LPS) of the ultrastructure of the main nephron elements into the probable clinical activity of chronic tubulointerstitial nephritis of infectious origin (CTIN), supplemented by three-dimensional visualization of the nephron.Berdichevsky B.A., Vasilkova T.N., Zubik G.V., Boldyrev A.L., Uchaev D.A.
Material and methods. Based on a large sample of over 100 2D transmission electron micrographs of nephrons at 10 000 magnification, an IT assistant with artificial intelligence elements was created for calculating and translating the light pixel saturation of nephron ultrastructures into the probable clinical activity of CTIN.
Results. An automated three-dimensional reconstruction of the main nephron elements was performed using 2D transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs as a single block. The digital indicator of nephron pixel saturation was used to programmatically translate this into the probable clinical activity of CTIN. The digital indicator of nephron pixel saturation can be proposed as a new integrative clinical and laboratory marker of CTIN manifestation activity.
Conclusion. The feasibility of using an IT assistant with artificial intelligence elements for automated interpretation and improved three-dimensional visualization of TEM results in the diagnosis of CTIN is demonstrated. The digital system can be adapted to other forms of nephrological diseases and integrated with databases of morphological centers and specialized nephrological and urological research and medical institutions.
